- Neither Litchfield Park nor Waddell has a city dog park — the nearest are Roscoe Dog Park in Goodyear and the Surprise parks.

What Arizona Requires
The paperwork is genuinely light compared to most states. One notarized affidavit per child, filed with the county, and that's the requirement.
The Affidavit
- Compulsory ages: 6 through 16
- What to file: Affidavit of Intent to Homeschool, one per child, with the Office of the Maricopa County School Superintendent
- Deadline: within 30 days of beginning to homeschool in Arizona, or within 30 days of a child's sixth birthday
- Notarization: required — the county office provides free notary service on site
- Proof of age: certified birth certificate preferred; baptismal certificate, Social Security application or school records also accepted

What Arizona Does Not Require
- No standardized testing

Empowerment Scholarship Accounts (ESA) — azed.gov/esa
Arizona's ESA program is open to any Arizona K–12 student eligible to enroll in public school. Funding is set at 90 percent of the state base funding a student would have generated in public school. Per the Arizona Department of Education's most recent quarterly report, more than three-quarters of awards land between roughly $7,000 and $9,000 per student per year, with higher amounts for students with documented disabilities. Good to Know
- ESA and the homeschool affidavit are separate paths. Under A.R.S. § 15-2402, a parent receiving an ESA does not file an affidavit of intent to homeschool — the ESA contract serves that purpose, and ESA students are classified separately under state law. It's a per-child decision, so families can choose differently for different children.
- An ESA student cannot be simultaneously enrolled in a public district, charter or public online school.
- Bring certified birth certificates from your current state. Photocopies aren't accepted for the affidavit, and this is the most common snag for families moving in from out of state.

The Maricopa County Library District runs a Culture Pass program in partnership with Act One. Good to Know
- Surprise, Peoria and Glendale run their own city library systems. Culture Pass is a Maricopa County Library District program — a county card through White Tank in Waddell or Georgia T. Lord in Goodyear opens that up regardless of where you live.
- Glendale's dog parks each close one weekday for maintenance: Foothills Wednesdays, Sahuaro Ranch Tuesdays, Northern Horizon Mondays, Heroes Thursdays.
- Litchfield Park and Waddell have no city dog park. The nearest are Roscoe in Goodyear and the two Surprise parks.
- Pavement temperature is the real hazard for dogs here, not air temperature. Most local families shift walks to early morning and after dark from May through September, and stick to grass and shaded turf at midday.

Out-of-state families are often surprised that summer here works like winter somewhere cold: the middle of the day is indoor time and life happens at the edges. Parks and splash pads fill up before 9 a.m. and again after 6 p.m. Pools stay busy into the evening. The stretch from about 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. is when the indoor venues below earn their keep.

Good to Know
- Splash pad seasons differ by city. Surprise runs April 1–October 31, Peoria runs April 15–October 15, Goodyear through October, and Glendale runs a split season with a short closure between late July and August 1.
- Monsoon season runs roughly mid-June through September, bringing dramatic evening storms, dust and sudden temperature drops. It's one of the best parts of the year here.
- Homes with a pool typically run the pump and equipment harder in summer — worth factoring into the utility picture alongside cooling.

- Arizona property taxes are low by national standards — most homes on your list run $1,200 to $3,500 a year
- Residential property is assessed at 10 percent of full cash value
- Community Facilities Districts (CFDs) are separate taxing districts that fund a community's infrastructure and amenities. Marley Park has one; it puts that community around $3,100/year versus $1,200–$1,700 nearby
- Under Proposition 117, the taxable value your bill is based on moves on its own track from market value
Luke AFB Flight Operations
- Luke is the Air Force's principal fighter pilot training base
- The 56th Fighter Wing flies roughly 100–150 sorties a day, Monday through Friday, generally 7 a.m. to 11:30 p.m.
- Arizona law (A.R.S. § 28-8461) defines a military airport vicinity extending 10 miles north, south and west and 4 miles east of the main runway centerline
- All of these addresses fall inside that area, and sellers provide a military airport disclosure on properties within it
- Seasonal wind shifts change takeoff and landing direction through the year

- Village at Prasada — Prasada North expansion pushed the center past a million square feet, adding dining, retail and medical
- Northern Parkway — east-west corridor upgrade improving the connection between Luke, Glendale and Peoria. Active construction can lengthen the commute to base while the work is underway

City Limits vs. County Islands
Not every address with a city mailing address is actually inside that city. Pockets of unincorporated county land — often called county islands — sit throughout the West Valley, and two of the areas in this guide fall on them. On county land, water and sewer come from private or regulated utility companies rather than a city department, emergency response is provided through fire districts and private providers rather than a municipal fire department, and law enforcement is the county sheriff. Some homeowners in these areas carry additional insurance coverage for emergency service fees. Talk to me about any property you're considering — I'll confirm which services apply.
Weather, Season by Season
October through April is why people move here — sunny, dry, 65 to 85 degrees, and every outdoor thing in this guide is at its best. May through September is the trade-off, with July and August running well over 100 and monsoon storms rolling through most evenings from mid-June. Snow is a two-hour drive north, and the Valley itself sees roughly 300 sunny days a year.
